Just finished watching 有话就说 on Chn U. About the MRT suicide incident. Actually, I find it quite appalling that some Singaporeans are shocked that such poverty exists in Singapore. They are living under the myth that all Singaporeans are just as rich as them, and only worry about their next Botox treatment, breast implant or feast at some restaurant. (breast implant only do once can liao? or few years later must 'supplement' again? I never do before, so I don't know =X)
Such is the sadness of living in your own small circle and not stepping out to take a look at the wider world. Sometimes people don't realise that there are poor people around them too. Then when nobody offers a helping hand, the tragedy happens. It's only after the jump that people wake up from their dreams and start offering help. Though the generosity of Singaporeans in general has always been well-known. But I think it's mostly limited to middle-aged people. Coz people our age only give a damn about things directly related to us. When was the last time you ate chicken rice? For the family in question, and possibly many others, they only get to eat such a dish like once a month or something, when their parents receive salary.
Haiz. Actually I think the father is quite selfish. His family has been with him through thick and thin but he chose to end his life there and then. Of course, we are in no position to comment, not having fully understood the situation. Maybe he was thinking this would make one less mouth to feed. Maybe he was thinking this could help his beloved family members. Maybe he predicted such an act would gain the attention of many others and therefore they would receive such a hefty sum of donation? I doubt so. But whatever the case, he might have solved the family's financial problems, the psychological and mental effects on his spouse and children are new problems that he has created.
Haiz. 有话就说 going to end next week. Finally can watch Yang sisters. Is it funny? I havent watched it yet. PCK coming soon!
