On Sunday's 仁慈 show, the number of donations made in the initial few hours were miserable. Not even half of the target. I began thinking: Were Singaporeans so easily shaken in their beliefs? Just because of what happened to NKF, we shouldn't overgeneralize and boycott all TV shows and donation drives. Whatever happened, the patients are still there. They still need a helping hand..and by refusing to donate, we are removing the benefits they receive from the organiztions. They don't deserve to suffer for what one man has done wrong. Neither do the employees of charitable organizations. They were not in the management...I expect they were only following orders from their bosses. Are our kind hearts so easily changed by one single person's mistakes?
I suppose 明义法师 was really quite surprised at the low amount of calls. Before the show, he had said in the papers that he had confidence that Singaporeans would not be affected by the recent turn of events. Apparently not...just because one organization turned out to be like this, most of us began to reject charities, especially charity shows. However. I think such shows are the most effective way of reaching out to the masses. Newspaper reports have also shown that television charity shows bring in the most amount of donations for almost all the participating organizations. If you think that charity shows should not be aired, then think about it. Would you make an effort to make donations to charities or find out more about them in the absence of such shows? I think many of us would not.
Anyways. Met our junior class already..though don't know most of them yet. Angel&mortal is here again! Hehe. Hope my mortal has a hard time guessing who he/she is! Wahahahaah.
